Go wild in the classroom and bring your science curriculum to life with a fun, ethical and educational Lion Learners animal handling experience.
This Science Week, why not treat your class to something a little bit different? A hands-on Lion Learners workshop is a fantastic way to kids get involved and learn about our amazing animal kingdom.
Each of our presenters is highly experienced and qualified in running animal handling workshops and will tailor the experience to your topics. Ensuring that all the animal objectives from your science curriculum are covered.
Each workshops lasts an hour per class, and the children will meet, find out about and handle a range of exotic and familiar animals. This might include snakes, lizards, tortoises, rabbits, guinea pigs, giant millipedes, hissing cockroach, arachnids and more.
Get up close to a selection of rainforest animals from around the world. Learn what a rainforest is and where you can find them. Explore the different layers of a rainforest and find out which animals live in each, what they eat and how they find their food.
Why don’t snakes have legs? Why do tortoises have a shell? How have different animals adapted to survive in their habitats? Find out in this fascinating workshop that lets children interact with animals to better understand evolution. Including meeting a giant millipede, a relative of the oldest known land mammal – and seeing how much the species has changed.
Meet marvellous mammals, remarkable reptiles and interesting invertebrates and learn about the differences between them. Find out why reptiles have scales, which animals lay eggs, what an exoskeleton is, and much, much more.
Where do animals live and why? Explore and identify different habitats. And of course, meet a selection of incredible animals, including those that are native to rainforests, deserts, grasslands, woodlands and more.
Wiggly, tickly and squiggly! Minibeasts are great! This fun, interactive workshop gives kids the chance to meet and learn about a collection of cool critters. Including giant millipede, hissing cockroach, giant land snails, stick insects and arachnids. As an added treat, we’ll also bring along a mammal and a reptile.
Life cycles, food chains, Africa, ‘paws, claws and whiskers’, dino-themed – you name it, if it’s animal related, we can help. Just ask for details.

A Lion Learners animal handling workshop is just £120 for an hour, up to £350 for a school day. Giving you the option to book for one or several classes.
A class of around 30 children will usually meet seven or eight animals over an hour. Animals may vary depending on which are the best suited for your topic.
Caring for our animals
Animal welfare is at the heart of everything we do. Many of our animals have been rescued from neglect or adopted from people who can no longer care for them. The animals live with their presenter in special habitats with the best possible enrichment. This encourages stimulation and natural behaviours. By living in our homes, we are able to form exceptionally strong bonds with the animals. It also lets us keep a very close eye on them to make sure they are happy, healthy and willing to socialise. It’s crucial that our animals’ needs are met and they are comfortable in any situation.
We carefully pick the species we choose to share our lives with, to ensure that we are able to meet their needs. This is why you won’t find us travelling with animals such as meerkats or racoons.
When you meet us, it will quickly become obvious how much we love our animals. We hope you will love them as much as we do!
