It’s back to school week and everyone is preparing for the new school year. Teachers are planning lessons, parents are locating lost uniform, while the keenest children may already have already packed pencil cases and bags.
Here at Lion Learners, we’re also working hard to ensure we have everything ready to bring our wild adventures into your classroom.
Educational, ethical and heaps of fun, Lion Learners animal handling workshops let children get up close to animals from around the world! Enabling a unique, amazing and enriching experience that children will remember and talk about long after the event.
Here’s how we prepare for animal antics in the classroom:
1. We spend lots of time socialising our animals
This is a biggie. It’s important that our animals are happy to visit your classroom and enjoy being handled by different people. We spend lots and lots of time with each animal, building trust and super strong bonds. This ensure the animals we bring to your school are friendly, calm and gentle.
Like people, all animals are different so we get to know their various personalities so we can respond and cater to their exact needs. Some animals, like rabbits and guinea pigs are happiest interacting on cushions, as this offers support and comfort that makes them feel safer.
Snakes like to freely slither over legs or hands, treating the child like a cool climbing frame. Minibeasts prefer an open hand that gives them plenty of surface space to chill out on. A few animals like to mix things up, like one of our blue tongue skinks who often decides to position himself like a baby! He’ll rest his head on a child’s shoulder with his body being cradled in their arms. It’s very cute!
Knowing what our animals like and don’t like means we can ensure they and you have the best time when they visit your school!
2. We’re constantly improving our knowledge and skills
Learning is very important at Lion Learners – for your school children and for us! Our presenters complete hands-on training and zoology studies to ensure they have the right knowledge and experience to provide you with the best possible workshop.
Crucially, our presenters understand how to share and apply their knowledge in a way that resonates with children. Bringing learning to life in a way that excites, delights and ignites their imagination.
3. We keep up-to-date of curriculum goals
With our founders coming from both zoology and teaching backgrounds, we ensure our workshops support your learning ambitions.
Ideal for EYFS, KS1, KS2 and KS3, each session is tailored to your topic, class needs and the national curriculum. And is packed full of fun facts to get kids talking and thinking about animals!

A Lion Learners animal handling workshop is just £120 for an hour, up to £350 for a full school day. Giving you the option to book for one or several classes.
A class of around 30 children will usually meet seven or eight animals over an hour. Animals may vary depending on which are the best suited for your topic.
Caring for our animals
Animal welfare is at the heart of everything we do. Many of our animals have been rescued from neglect or adopted from people who can no longer care for them. The animals live with their presenter in special habitats with the best possible enrichment. This encourages stimulation and natural behaviours. By living in our homes, we are able to form exceptionally strong bonds with the animals. It also lets us keep a very close eye on them to make sure they are happy, healthy and willing to socialise. It’s crucial that our animals’ needs are met and they are comfortable in any situation.
We carefully pick the species we choose to share our lives with, to ensure that we are able to meet their needs. This is why you won’t find us travelling with animals such as meerkats or racoons.
When you meet us, it will quickly become obvious how much we love our animals. We hope you will love them as much as we do!
