Have you ever wanted to meet a real life dragon? How about introducing children to the characters in books for real? Now is your chance. We read a book together and then afterwards we run a meet the animal session. Children get the chance to hold the animal featured in the book and ask questions. They can meet some of their favourites; Julia Donaldson’s Rhyming Rabbit, the snail (not the whale!) from The Snail & The Whale, a variety of creatures including a dragon from The Great Pet Sale by Mick Inkpen and many more. We have a wide range of animals to choose from. This is an ideal activity for libraries, bookshops, nurseries and school literacy weeks.
We have a number of special sessions available to celebrate World Book Day, Halloween, Christmas and much more. We have provided educational activities for many of the Summer Reading Challenge themes in libraries over the summer holidays and hope to plan a special session for the theme next year.
We can run animal poetry sessions where children will read along with our presenters and meet the animal stars of the poems and nursery rhymes. The sessions are specially tailored to be able to suit either Early Years children or KS1 and KS2 children and are great for schools, nurseries, libraries and children’s centres. This is a good opportunity for children to think about writing their own poetry too!
Lion Learners also offer Phonics sessions to help your Early Years children to grasp some of those tricky sounds, in a fun and unusual way, with the help of our animals.
During a one-hour storytime session, children are likely to meet around five or six animals, depending on the group. Animals are likely to include rabbits, guinea pigs, snake, lizard and some weird and wonderful creepy crawlies.
Each presenter has their own animals, who live at the presenters’ home. To find out which animals your local presenter has, please visit their presenter page by visiting the Book Now page. Please feel free to make a request for a particular animal, and if it is possible for the animal to be there, then it will be.
